Explore nearly 100 miles of high country roads through the Sierra National Forest with breathtaking panoramas, amazing vistas, unique rock formations and even a charming general store with mouthwatering hamburgers and freshly baked pie.
We would like to thank everyone who reached out to check status or talk about their favorite places along the byway during the Creek Fire. While we are still saddened about some much devastation, we are also in awe of the new beautiful vistas and scenic spots that have appeared since the fire.

9-9-24 Updates:
Beasore Road (5S07): Paving of ~9 miles of dirt road was completed on August 30. Additional road work (crack filling and chip sealing) is in progress an is expected to be complete by mid September. The road remains open; watch out for heavy equipment and expect delays (15 - 20 minutes).
Norris Creek Bridge: Reconstruction of the bridge, due to concrete issues, will now not likely take place in 2024.
Norris Creek Bridge to 4S81 Paving: Will occur after the Norris Creek Bridge repair.
Minarets Road (4S81): The road/culvert repair of Minarets Road between Mile High Vista and Soda Springs Campground is complete and the road closure that has been in effect north of Mile High Vista for the last few months has been lifted. Expect delays of 15 to 20 minutes Monday-Friday 7:00am to 5:30pm between September 3 - October 11 while the road is being paved.
The Sierra Vista Scenic Byway is open, but some parts remain closed or impacted due to impact from past fire and storm events. There is a detour in place for NORRIS CREEK BRIDGE area. Nelder Grove: A hard closure is in effect as of July 1, 2024 so that hazard tree removal work can continue. Work is currently planned to continue through 2025. See Restoration Article HERE.
